My dream came true! I am so excited to represent Grant as the Rose Festival Princess. During this interview for the Oregonian, I was still on cloud nine and was in shock to have been crowned.

Here is part of my diary entry of the big day:
“My heart started to thump really loud and then Meredith [our student body president] opened the envelope and she gave me this poker face look and her eyes got really big. She looked me directly in the eye and SAID MY NAME!!!!! I was so happy…what an amazing day.”
Posing right in front of Grant High School, Ross and I celebrated!

Hi, Rachel:
Finally got to look at your blog. It’s so much fun to keep up with your reactions and your activities. I also love the photos!!
I was really touched to read about your grandfather. I guess I figured some of his (your) family had been interned during the war, but reading about it really hit me. Your granddad really was a hero—to believe in a country even when they’re doing something so ridiculous. And what must it have been like for him to see you crowned and become such an example for young people….wow!
Anyway, have a great year. Randy and I both send love and best wishes!! We’ll check up on the blog from time to time. And it was great to see you this summer.
Yours, Kathy
